What is Yoga Therapy?

Yoga Therapy addresses the health of the individual through the lens of the Panchamaya model. This is an Indian Anatomy model that describes 5 fields of the human system; physical body, breath, mind, personality and emotions. Working with any one of these fields creates a ripple effect throughout the whole system- working with all of them can bring optimum health. Yoga therapists are skilled at working with clients using this lens.

○ During an 1:1 initial session your yoga therapist will perform a detailed intake to discover factors that are influencing your current state of health.

○ A physical assessment will establish your base-line mobility, functionality and health goals to determine a comprehensive yoga practice that is just for you.

The following tools will comprise a personally-designed yoga practice for you to do each day.

  • Physical posture and exercise (asana)

  • Breath work (pranayama)

  • Meditation (using guided visualization and imagery)

  • Sound (listening, singing or chanting)

  • Self Inquiry (reflection, lifestyle modification)
